Getting to the Point

We already knew about seal point sister Roxie.

Check out her creamy fur, beautifully striped tail, and graying toes and ear tips.

"Yes, I'm gorgeous.  Now get me back to my mama!"

But a surprise has been developing over the past couple of days...

Previously polar bear white brother Clay started getting a bit of orange tabby stripe to his tail.

And his handsome little ear tips are turning orange, too.
I think this makes Clay a flame point.

Not to be outdone...

Lionel woke up and wanted equal time.

"A tiny tabby man is gorgeous too!"

So many kitten variations from one tortie mama.
She certainly provided a variety pack :-)

Mother Jefferson insists upon keeping the children on the floor in the closet.

As the kidlets get mobile, I have found them behind the litter box and wandering the corners of the bathroom.

Looking for a way to contain the munchkins safely, I searched high and low until I found an old produce crate from the farm.  After cleaning it, I lined it with a fleece blanket and moved the children inside.

Ten minutes later I heard a kitten screaming... Roxie was being relocated back to the closet.

After a bit of rearranging, Mama and I have reached a compromise.
Kids stored in the linen closet.
Litter box shoved as far back as it will go.
Produce crate blocking off the exit to the rest of the bathroom.

I found Mama sleeping in the crate.
Who can blame her for wanting her own room?

From left to right: Roxie, Willie Rae, Clay, and then either Florence and Lionel, or perhaps Lionel and Florence (I can tell them apart when they look at me, but in this photo I am clueless)

"Hey Lady, we did cute stuff today too!"

I know you did, Bentley.  I'll have more pictures of the Adams Family tomorrow.

Your gratuitous shot of Normie in a box.
You're welcome.

  1. Norm! You sweet boy.

Mother Jefferson just wants to make sure you know she's in charge. :)

    1. I love the look she gives me whenever I "relocate" the babies to clean out the area/change the blanket.... "You know I'm just putting them right back there, right? So you might as well put them back yourself."

  2. NORMAN!!!

Yep - we have had a couple of litters of tinies, and it never fails that no matter the bed we provide, the momma cat has other plans.

  3. Great pics! The Adams family is the perfect size now. Those others are too teeny weeny for me.

    1. I agree that the Adams kittens are infinitely more interesting at the moment. And they ARE perfect!

  4. Why is it when I see pictures of baby babies all I can think is I so want newborns.. but then when I have newborns and I see pictures of toddler kittens all I want is for them to grow up and play with me..

    oh so cute!

    1. The playful, cuddly ones really are more interesting at the moment. But it has been SO much fun to watch the babies develop... essentially from scratch even!

  6. Hey Kelly-I might be getting a kitty from my neighbor. I can't decide though. There are 2 left to give away from the litter. The mom is a calico similar to Robyn's Brandywine. One of them is close to Porter's coloring and the other is a very muted calico. I am going to post also at Robyn's. I know very little about the family but the kittens look okay even though they have not been to the vet yet. They have no goop in their eyes. The major selling points are 1)they are cute 2)they are free 3)they are easy to transport across the street :)
A few questions though-how much is the cost (I know different states may have different fees) for shots and initial checkup and stuff? We don't feel microchipping is necessary though.

    1. Oh, how exciting!! I've often thought that Brandywine and Mother Jefferson looked very similar to each other (but since Mother Jefferson usually demands petting take priority over photos...)

I haven't had a kitten (at least one where I paid the vet bills) in 9 years, but in my experience vet costs vary wildly from place to place every time we've moved. "Country" vets usually cost less than "city" vets. But, also in my experience, a good vet is worth paying a bit more for. Check around for recommendations in your area. Many vets will offer a kitten "package", where they combine office visit/shots/etc.

Depending on the vet, office calls will run $25 and up. Vaccines generally start at $10 each (and higher, depending upon the shot). Spaying will run more than neutering (much more involved) and since it's been 10 years since I've had the process done, I won't speculate on the cost. Don't be afraid to call the vet and ask for a price list. Many shelters in larger areas will have their own vet clinics, which are open to the public, and will charge lower fees.

In general, once we've gotten a cat to adulthood (past the more frequent shots and the surgery) vet care for a healthy cat has usually run us in the neighborhood of $40-50 per year with office call and shots.

Have fun with your new baby! I can't wait to hear which one (ones?) you've picked. Send me pictures!!

  7. Thanks for the info. I am planning to call some places and ask about fees but just wanted a general idea from you all first. I posted 2 "close" pics over at Robyn's (9-19). I didn't know if you allowed links. I will certainly keep you in the loop when I decide though. Really wish one of them could've been a little stripey as that would make the choosing easier. You know how fond I was(am) of Eloise/Henry and Robyn's Newberry and Agata.

    1. SO STINKING CUTE!!!!!! I don't know how to decide. Perhaps that means you need both ;-) I have an eternal crush on tuxies, so I'd have a hard time passing up that black one (but then again, I have a thing for calicos....)

I haven't figured out Blogger completely yet, but I do believe you can post links here. Heck, even if it won't link you can put the address in the comments and I'll cut and paste to see it.

      Keep me posted!
