Little Left Over Levi Is Lonely

Just a few days ago, little Levi had all of the excitement he ever wanted right in his very own room. He had two brothers and a sister to keep him entertained and comforted all day long. But Saturday's adoption hours came along... and there there was one.

A handsome one, but one never-the-less.

Levi enjoyed sunbathing in his favorite spot.
But there's only so much chillaxing a boy can do,
even a kitten boy.

So little Levi got busy...

Levi played meerkat while stalking the feather teaser.
That was fun for a while.

(Editor's sidenote: That ringworm spot on his leg in the photo is making me cringe. It is completely covered with fur now. Thank goodness!! Now back to our program...)

So little Levi got busy (again)...

Levi got started on his hole to China.
We estimate he'll get there next week sometime at the rate he's going.

And then little Levi, lonely little left over Levi, got an idea.

39 fosters in Teeny Tiny Tabby Town over a period of ten months and ONE (only ONE) kitten has achieved escape mastery on the level of our Levi. He's obviously gifted and talented and absolutely brilliant. (I know I'm his foster mom and might be a teeny bit biased, but I'd say Levi is a lock for the Kitten MENSA program.)

Lonely little left over Levi isn't quite so lonely anymore...

Although I question his choice in friends.
They're clearly not on the same intellectual level.

(And before you start yelling at me, I've got to tell you something that might be tough to hear... Charlie is a wonderfully gentle, caring, and fun dog,
but he was hiding behind the door when St. Bede passed out the brains)

Levi thinks Charlie's bed is quite comfy.

Charlie thinks his bed was comfier before he had to adjust to keep from squishing tiny kittens.

Little Levi may not be waiting very long before he lands a forever home of his very own. He had a meet and greet Monday night and, needless to say, he was exceptionally charming and made quite an impression. The couple is meeting one other foster kitten from our rescue today before making a final decision. We should find out soon. Regardless, I don't think he will be with us for much longer.

He's packing up his gear as I type this.

  1. love the "yell at the doorknob" before you open it technique. :) Smart boy - we know he will be adopted in no time.

(and don't worry Charlie - we have a kitten in our rescue right now that mom says is adorable, super sweet and dumb as a box of rocks)

    1. Ha! We've debated at times which one is smarter, Charlie or a box of rocks ;) (Charlie does win that contest, by the way. But in comparison to his predecessor, he's kind of a bonehead)

And Levi yelled at that doorknob for a full minute before he jumped. I cut out the part of the video where you can hear me say, "Just OPEN it!"

  2. I question why YOU question Charlie's intelligence. Charlie knows when to befriend and when it is not worth his time. Has he not befriended all the most IMPORTANT and lovable kittens you've sheltered? How many of the kittens you have sheltered have been ALLOWED into Charlie's boudoir?

    1. I absolutely do not question his heart or his innate ability to gauge the friendliness of a particular kitten. But we have at times wondered if the dog had suffered a concussion or some other sort of brain damage before coming to live with us. ;) He's a great guy and I love him desperately, but he's not a Lab who holds up the breed's reputation for brains.

  3. Poor, sweet Charlie reminds me of my parent's dog. Shadow has mad cuddling skills, and would gladly crawl his entire German Shepard/Lab/ox self into your lap. He is, however, dumb as a box of hair.

    1. The less intelligent ones have to be sweet. It's how they earn their keep :)

  4. Awww, nothing tugs harder at the heart strings than a wee kitten hollering because he wants out! But Levi is smart enought to take matters into his own paws when you aren't fast enough answering his demands!

I think this needs to go to America's Funniest Home videos!

    1. I've given up locking him in alone any longer. You'll notice that Ruby is actually in the room with him (you can see her in the round portion of the cat tree inside the room). I'm sure she's taking notes herself. "You can DO that???"

  5. Oh Levi, I hope the interested parties pick you! Or, better yet, picks you AND the other kitten so you have a playmate. If not, I may have to drive out to Michigan and adopt you myself!

    1. If he goes to this particular home, Levi will have a one-year-old kitty sister to keep him company :)

If he doesn't, I'll put him "on hold" for you if you want ;)

  6. Love the video!! (but could you please turn your phone / camera on it's side to take videos.. they look so much better in wide version)

I think those "box of rocks" pets make for some of the sweetest pets ever (points to Twee)

Paws crossed he has a home already..

    1. I thought I did turn the camera, but can't remember anymore... my editing software needs an upgrade that I'll try to get to soon.

Charlie and Simba absolutely agree about the box of rocks pets. Did I just implicate another one? ;)

    2. I have an iTouch, and I'm constantly taking photos with it "upright" because that is the way the iOS is laid out, but when you turn it sideways it takes much better picts and video.. same with most phones..

  8. Love love LOVE this! Do you ever look at Pitter Pats of Baby Cats? Reminds of when Sue had a couple of tiny kittens who figured out how to crawl under the door - through a two-inch gap!

    1. YES! Wasn't one of them the little girl with a cast on her front leg? Amazing! If Levi ever figures that one out, I'm doomed.

  9. Oh, my gosh! So cute! I would be on your doorstep in a minute if I weren't already at my HOA-mandated cat limit (only two!).... My late, lamented Simon was very "tall," and used to regularly stand at the door and try to turn the doorknob. We didn't have any lever handles and that's probably a good thing!
