Just Don't Get Me Started....

Short post this morning. Crazy long day filled with Christmas tree misadventures (none of them kitten related... yet). I'm hoping to have a beautiful photo of a kitten under the tree for you tomorrow.

Please Don't Get Me Started...

I know that there are valid reasons for kitten adopters to return their kittens. Family members have unexpected allergies. The kitten isn't accepted by other animals in the family, no matter how hard and how long you try. I'll even accept that the landlord had a fit and is making you return it. I can deal with it if the adopter truly wanted the kitten and tried their very best to make it work.

But calling less than 24 hours after adoption and wanting to return the kitten that you just cried over in the store? Yeah... Don't get me started.

It doesn't matter the reason. I don't care about the excuse. The sweet, loving, gentle kitten boy couldn't possibly cause that big a problem in under 18 hours. If you don't want him enough to even attempt to make it through one full day, I'm glad to bring him back home.

Welcome home, Lincoln. Your brothers and I missed you. We'll do better next time. I promise.

Hope you gave them a little of this on the way out the door ;-)

I'm running out first thing this morning to collect Lincoln and bring him back where he belongs. In the meantime, let's discuss the good news. I'm just happy that we always take them back.

**Update: Lincoln is home, safe and sound and where he belongs at the moment. While I might wish that things had turned out differently, he is happy and healthy and we can always find him a better home the next time around.

The Good News!

Besides our good news here, we have more good news on the adoption front. Cooper has a new home and a new mom and new kitty brothers to meet this weekend! He will be living less than two miles away from me, so I'm dropping off this weekend at his new home.

Cooper's family previously adopted a kitten from our rescue. We know without a doubt that he's going to a wonderful home. I just hope they have lots of blankets for him to build forts with... our boy is an engineer, and a camper, and a hibernator.

You might think that with all that floof, he'd be too warm under the blankets.
You would be wrong.

I'll be back tomorrow with Christmas craziness and a welcome home party for Lincoln.

  1. I think we need to do a better job of teaching people how to make decisions in schools. Right now, the only quidance people have is movies and ads which teach that emotion should be your guide for making decisions. NOT true, as this episode with Lincoln shows.

Sorry to rant. It's just that it's the animals which suffer. At any rate, Lincoln is MUCH better off with you until he finds his true home.

It sounds like Cooper has found a good place. Hooray!!

    1. No need to apologize for the rant. I did plenty of ranting yesterday. Families DO need to take time to think out every part of adopting an animal (and then listen to the advice given on how to help your new pet adjust to their new home)

  2. Skippy went to a home that I told them right up front he could get sick again, although with a urinary infection, that it was a very good possibility. They adopted him anyway and brought him back after a few days because he got a cold!!! Sometimes I think that these people are necessary to get these kitties into the right home. If he didn't go there and come back he most likely wouldn't be available when he will be available to be found by his next home... so it is all good.

and remember, they brought him back.. they didn't give him to someone, he didn't end up on the street, and they learned a valuable lesson (hopefully)

    1. I absolutely meant to say that I'm glad they called us so that we could take him back. Lincoln will end up in the right place. It just wasn't this one.

  3. Awww Lincoln...but you know, I'd rather they bring him right back than later after he had started to feel at home. To Lincoln this was just a little side trip on the journey to his real home and his kitten marshmallow fluff-filled head has already moved on! :)

    1. Absolutely, I just dislike the drama involved. He was so upset when I picked him up, but purred like nobody's business when I held him. He was so happy to see our house and Charlie and his brothers. I think he'll rest well today.

  4. Kelly-hugs to both you and Lincoln. I'm sure it is difficult for both of you but as you also know it was for the best. We took a day off from thinking and doing much of anything yesterday. Tree will be going up probably tomorrow-today I have to clean and get the rest of the house organized. Anxious to see your pics and I will post link when I get mine up.

    1. Willie Rae is spending a lot of time investigating this morning. No ornaments yet. We shall see what she does later tonight as we decorate ;)

    1. He's home and it's for the best. I don't blame them for anything other than adopting without thinking about it first... and perhaps for the way they introduced him to the dog (the reaction of Lincoln and the dog being why he came back... no adjustment period allowed at all)

He's purring in a cuddle puddle with his brothers right now.

  6. It is the "short" ones that make me the craziest. I am with you - bring them back cause better they are back with the rescue than with you. But really - 18 hours???? ugh....people make me nuts

    1. This is a good thing and a bad thing. It's frustrating that Lincoln went through the yo-yo experience. But I really want to make sure he's in the RIGHT home. If this one wasn't right, then he deserves the opportunity to find the perfect one for him.

    1. We will be back to looking for them on Saturday. I got fabulous news this afternoon too.... Another brother will be there. CRUZIE!!! He's better and ready for adoption again. ((And if he isn't adopted on Saturday, he's moving in with his brothers here!))

  8. When I brought Crystal home, she and Willow didn't get along. It wasn't a matter of a little fluffy/hissy stuff, either it was full out WAR. So, I bought a baby gate and Crystal had the front of the apartment, Willow had the back. They could see and smell each other, but there was no combat (and, truthfully, either of them could have jumped that gate had they been so inclined.

Six months I had that gate up and then I started taking it down for a few hours a day and eventually it came down altogether. Are they best buddies? No. Is there Mortal Combat every day like there was at the beginning? No. But there was no way I was going to give up either of them and if I had needed to live the rest of my life in a gated apartment, I was ok with that (although I'm glad that there is a peaceful co-existence now).

When you make the decision to adopt, that means you make the decision to do what needs to be done to make it work. Makes me angry/sad that some people don't feel that way. Glad Lincoln was able to come back home so he can find someone who will commit to giving him a furever home!

    1. I'm glad that most adopters are like you and understand that it takes time and commitment with pets. Although, in situations like these, I am actually glad that we got that phone call. His true family will make that forever commitment that he needs.
