The Breakout Queen

Or perhaps it's The Breakout Princess?

"Hmm... this lever thing-a-mah-bob seems to be the key to freedom, Maxie.
Maybe, just maybe, if Princess pushes this way while sticking her tongue out in the other direction...."

"Juuuust a little wiggle and a squeeze...."

"Okay, so that didn't work like Princess expected...
Let's just have a closer look at the handle, shall we?"

"And now a little sniff..."

"Look out, Maxie! Princess will gnaw our way to freedom!"

Well, things did not go exactly as Princess had planned.
But hijinks were had by all once that door was opened anyway.
More on that tomorrow.

Another place from which Princess could not escape?

The display cage at the adoption event this weekend.

No matter how hard she tried to squeeze her face through the bars,
Princess remained trapped inside.

Good thing she had friends along with her.

"Don't worry, Princess! Belle will protect you!"

Goodnight, My Angel

The sweetest girl in the entire world has traveled to the Rainbow Bridge.

Our darling former foster Abby was with us from September through January while she worked to kick her upper respiratory habit. During that time, she wormed her way into a place in my heart that few fosters are able to reach... so deep into my heart that I wasn't sure that I could ever let her go.

But let her go, I did... to the best family that I could have ever hoped to find for her. She gave them incredible amounts of love and joy, and worry as she began to get ill again. Her immune system met its match and our dear sweet Abby is gone.

While I can only honor her here today in photos, in the spring...

New rose bushes will be planted alongside Norman, Einstein, and Grizzly's.

There will be one for her baby sister Chanel too.

Abby's family is pretty heartbroken, as you can imagine. Her little brother Grizzly misses her like crazy. Any condolence messages you leave here will be passed along to them.

When things get tough around here, I turn to music. Ever since I learned the news about Abby, the song "Goodnight, My Angel" by Billy Joel has been running through the back of my mind. I'm paraphrasing the end of the song in tribute to her...

"Someday we'll all be gone,
But memories go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
and I
Will be."

What Kittens Do When Your Back Is Turned

"Look exceptionally handsome? Is that what kittens do when your back is turned, Lady?"

No, Miggy... although you ARE very good at looking handsome.

I was thinking more about the floor around you.

I swear this room was clean when I left here for work this morning.

Observe:

1. Kitten dishes moved into the middle of the room.

2. Rug upon which the kitten dished used to sit also moved into the middle of the room.

3. Cushions pulled off the tipped over chair.
(At least they didn't tip over the chair to begin with)

4. Arm rest covers similarly strewn.

5. Cat beds relocated and flipped over.

6. Litter EVERYWHERE.

"Sheesh, Lady... This place is a MESS!"

"How did THAT happen?"

"Princess did NOT do it!"

"You don't think it was Garnet, do you Lady?"

"Well, it couldn't have been Garnet! Garnet is so wide-eyed and innocent!"

"Belle's got eyes, too!"

"Just because they're not in focus, doesn't make them any less innocent."

Good thing they're cute because this gang is a five kitten wrecking crew...

And they're not sorry, either.

Bring On The Funny

That blankety-blank llama has been here all afternoon and into the evening.

I'm choosing not to deal with today.

I have a feeling my face looked like this for much of the day.

Or perhaps it looked like this.

Or maybe even this.

My kids might say it looked like this too.

It's been a day and a half... or a year and a half... not sure which.

So, because I need the laugh. I'm bringing on the funny. Feel free to link your own funnies in the comments or post them to our Facebook wall.

Actually, this is what Charlie said to me today.
What he was really saying was "Don't look behind the bed"
You don't want to know what was there.

That's what Miggy said.

Says Max... It not only looks like her, but acts like her too.
Teeniest kitten in the room is the biggest, most voracious eater of the bunch.

Catnip, my Aunt Fanny. They're looking for bacon... and they finished it too.

What happened after I got home and found them on the counter ;)

Good thing the cats are cuter than my lamps.

Is it cookie season yet? I would totally eat a box of Tagalongs right now.

Says the cat who watches me in the shower.

He might be right after the government shut itself down.
I'm kidding... kind of... yeah, I'm kidding ;)

What I'm hoping tomorrow looks like.

My thanks to my daughter and I Can Has Cheezburger for the laughs. I knew I was saving them for something important.
