Goodnight, My Angel

The sweetest girl in the entire world has traveled to the Rainbow Bridge.

Our darling former foster Abby was with us from September through January while she worked to kick her upper respiratory habit. During that time, she wormed her way into a place in my heart that few fosters are able to reach... so deep into my heart that I wasn't sure that I could ever let her go.

But let her go, I did... to the best family that I could have ever hoped to find for her. She gave them incredible amounts of love and joy, and worry as she began to get ill again. Her immune system met its match and our dear sweet Abby is gone.

While I can only honor her here today in photos, in the spring...

New rose bushes will be planted alongside Norman, Einstein, and Grizzly's.

There will be one for her baby sister Chanel too.

Abby's family is pretty heartbroken, as you can imagine. Her little brother Grizzly misses her like crazy. Any condolence messages you leave here will be passed along to them.

When things get tough around here, I turn to music. Ever since I learned the news about Abby, the song "Goodnight, My Angel" by Billy Joel has been running through the back of my mind. I'm paraphrasing the end of the song in tribute to her...

"Someday we'll all be gone,
But memories go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
and I
Will be."

  3. This is very sad news. It's always hard to lose a furry family member, but especially when they are still so young. My condolences to you and to Abby's family.

  12. There are really no words other than "I has a sad." Losing fur babies is something we all have to go through as pet owners, but it never, ever gets any easier. They are our family.

  13. My very first thought was "first Chanel and now they lose Abby!!?!" Please send my and my furbabies condolences to Abby's humans and to Grizzly, as well as to you Kelly.

I think I need to go hug all my babies now.

  14. I'm absolutely gutted, and I only knew this dear girl thanks to Kelly's wonderful and loving portraits of her. So sad for her family, for Grizzly, and for Kelly, who adored her. While its not true that only the good die young, it feels that way. Farewell, much-adored and -admired girl. May your sweetness live on.
